The Everettes by The Everettes

Three ladies sing, their melodies enchant to the groove of the band. Horns push, strings sweeten up. The Everettes bring back the nearly forgotten vibe of 60s girl groups to the present and they do it with their very own charm. Clearly inspired by Northern Soul, Stax and the latest neo soul revivals, the Berlin based combo is not stating the big question of genre though – they just rather create what they love: wonderful songs, to which you want to hear the vinyl crackle and dance across the allnighter floor.
After compelling performances at British scooter rallies, the Baltic Soul Weekender and even Lollapalooza, The Everettes will now release their self-titled first album in May. It contains no less than 14 original tracks, mostly recorded live and through analogue gear, with alternating lead and backing vocals by Jess Roberts, Katharina Dommisch and Laura Niemeyer.
The band emerged from Berlin’s former soul darlings The Floorettes, who were popular also beyond the scene and even caused a stir in Japan with their album 'Pocket Full of Soul' in 2012. Five of those band members are still involved, two of the singers joined since then. Thereby the sound also got more rooty and grown-up and the three front women complement each other very well in their vocals. While British northern soul Jess, who already released solo singles with Acid Jazz Records, delights with her contagious power, original Berliner (and full-time nursery teacher) Laura soothes with warm soulful tones and Katharina, just as in the previous band, reminds the listener of the likes of Carole King or Laura Nyro with her gentle and captivating voice.
In studio The Everettes worked with Robbie A.J. Moore and Sam Vine, who also produced the latest album by Jesper Munk among others. Thereby it was all about capturing the most of the magic from playing together in a live setting, instead of trying to bring the tracks to too much perfection. This undisguised freshness is also the ultimate feature of the nine or more musicians at their concerts. You should definitely see them!
