Heart-Shaped Box (Lockdown Version) by Hannah Williams

Hannah Williams and the Affirmations are the current darlings of the worldwide Soul scene. Having been sampled by Jay Z on the Grammy-nominated song “4:44”, they were catapulted around the globe. This has lead them to work w/ Tyler The Creator, Guy Chambers and Pete Rock, to name a few. They've been personally championed by Huey Morgan and the late, great masters Sharon Jones and Charles Bradley.

HANNAH WILLIAMS & THE AFFIRMATIONS RELEASE A COVER OF NIRVANA’S “HEART-SHAPED BOX”

Bristol-based soul hurricane Hannah Williams & The Affirmations unleash a cover of Nirvana’s “Heart-shaped box” today, June 26th on all digital platforms.
Hannah and the band have been enjoying connecting with their fans and followers in a whole new way during the past few months of lockdown. Putting musical direction in the hands of their loyal following for the first time, a cover song choice was put to the vote and as a result they were set the challenge of covering a truly classic/significant track. Originally released in 1993, “Heart shaped Box” became a hugely popular and life-changing release for Nirvana as well as the many millions of fans who fell in love with it.
In this new recording, Hannah and the band put their own musical spin on this cult classic highlighting how fundamentally any great composition can translate across different genres if embraced and adapted with care. Through countless back and forths with their mixing engineer, and rapid advancements to each of their remote recording setups; the band managed to sculpt this recording, despite lockdown restrictions. The song itself shines the light once again on the state of society and its turmoils; coincidentally more relevant than ever to all of us today, making this release far more poignant than the band ever envisaged.
“This release is an ode to the world and its struggles” the band says “a nod to the past but also a move into the future, and most of all a tribute to all the amazing people who continue to not only support the band but also support all the important messaging and movements they try to encourage through their art and influence”.
Born in High Wycombe in Buckinghamshire, Williams' father was a musically gifted minister, and her mother let her join the church choir at the age of six. Hannah could read music before she could properly read words, and when she discovered soul by listening with her mum to Motown and Bill Withers, there was no turning back. Hannah Williams & The Affirmations turned heads worldwide when the hip-hop superstar Jay-Z sampled her heart-stopping vocals on “Late Nights & Heartbreak” for the title track, “4.44” on his 2017 album. With the new album “50 FOOT WOMAN”, released last October 18th on the Milan based imprint Record Kicks, Hannah and her exemplary, Bristol-based band the Affirmations have delivered a definitive career statement.

Perception Productions, a New York based label that ran from the late 60s through until 1974, was a strangely eclectic affair. Its roster stretched from a radical Afro-American poet through to the pop band King Harvest whose hit ‘Dancing In The Moonlight’ became a massive hit for the UK band Toploader a couple of decades later. The inbetween points covered jazz, funk, vocal harmony soul and proto-disco. In fact distilled down into this compilation the label provides us a view of Manhattan’s black music scene of the period, from the established greats to the fresh young things who would make their mark in the coming years. The two men who ran the label, President Terry Phillips and Boo Frazier burned brightly for that half a decade before almost entirely disappearing from the music scene.

When they started up the label their initial signings suggested that the black high arts were their true love. The first year saw Shirley Horn, James Moody and the most famous of them all Dizzy Gillespie signed in quick succession. Gillespie is one of African-American music’s most important figures, who in the 1940s alongside Charlie Parker figureheaded the revolutionary changes in jazz that were labeled Bebop. He was rarely without a record deal from that day forth until his death in 1993, so getting him to sign to the new... more

If My Love Was Enough (feat. Natalie Slade) by Dojo Cuts

DOJO CUTS are on fire and giving us almost every week a super songs

Magnetic soul - a pounding groove reminiscent of psychedelic 70s funk coupled with guest Natalie Slade's soaring vocals, equal parts ethereal and visceral.
Natalie has brought a fresh Melbournesque future soul vibe to the tried and true Dojo Cuts sound. There’s echos of Africa in her backing calls and responses. Of note is Nat’s delivery of that chorus, reinforcing the fact this song won’t be neglected.
The lyrical content is deceptively sombre but powerful. Production is on point and retrofresh.

Bahama Soul Club & Arema Arega "Mango EP"

Magnific can't wait for the album !!

Willwork4funk and Buyú Records are proud to present the "Mango EP" by Bahama Soul Club, featuring Cuban singer Arema Arega and remixes by Club Des Belugas and TheEEs

As anticipation builds around the release of their upcoming album "Bohemia After Dawn" dropping on July 17th, German latin / nu jazz outfit Bahama Soul Club gives another sneak peak into what to expect on the new full-length with "Mango EP", a 3-track teaser centered around track "Mango" featuring Cuban singer Arema Arega.
One of the most exciting voices in the Bahama Soul Club family so far ... an ongoing love affair, Cuban artist Arema Arega is somewhat a permanent feature and once more she confirms this love match with her unique take on this sweet yellow-green part of a god. Arema Arega is one of the most exciting voices in the Bahama Soul Club family and has been somewhat of a permanent feature throughout their albums. In "Mango" she once more confirms this love match with her unique take on this sweet yellow-green part of a god, waxing lyrical over a laidback tropical groove.
Sure it will soon be a classic in your library. Promise! We’ve sent some early demos to friends and supporters and wonderful feedback came in the shape of two brilliant remixes. Mighty „Club des Belugas“ (anybody knows these guys??) sent an irresistible Bossa Remix, and world famous project „TheEEs“ (Yes these, everybody knows those) just flew in with a sappy Reggae Roll. It is rumored that these guys now turned their back to badly cashed majordeals to sign for a Million dollar deal on Buyú-The track comes accompanied by a groovy video by André Neundorf that blends new film with archival footage taken from movie "Soy Cuba" by Mikhail Kalatozov. Also on the EP are remixes by Club Des Belugas who go in a bossanova direction and new project TheEEs who add caribbean reggae vibes.
Records. An album release of „TheEEs“ on Buyú will impress you later this year.

Laid back. 2 Mango (Club des Belugas Bossa Remix) This Remix of Mango made by Club des Belugas brings Sunset colors to the music palette of the Ep. Bigband lounge ambience y mucho Sabor!!!! 3 Mango (TheEEs Reggae Remix) Hot night in a caribbean beach, in the horizon the lights of the city, but we are in a paradise and we don't want to leave. The hunting reggae is our heart beat.

KIND OF STRANGE by Out of the Ordinary, Feat. Rosanne Erskine/Philly and Check Masses from Glenda Rome

the preview of unreleased 'Live @The Voodoo Rooms' Mix we played on The Zuzu club radio show isnot yet available

KIND OF STRANGE by Out of the Ordinary, Feat. Rosanne Erskine/Philly and Check Masses from Glenda Rome on Vimeo.

The original version is an eerily, atmospheric track with a classic film noir vibe, underscored with beats provided by Joseph Malik on the ones and twos, in collaboration with Check Masses members Vic Galloway, Saleem Andrew McGroarty and Philly Collins. Vocal powerhouses, Rosanne Erskine and Philly Collins will have you looking over your shoulder with their edgy, unsettling vocal delivery – was that a ghostly outline or just a curtain blowing in the breeze? Combine all of these elements with the mighty Steven Christie’s keyboard, Paulo ‘Brother’ Riddle’s anchoring percussion and Saleem Andrew McGroarty at the production controls, something rather special comes out of the speakers. To prepare for their ‘North Street’ remixes, Jo Wallace and Darren Morris immersed themselves in continuous re-runs of iconic TV series, ‘Randall + Hopkirk [Deceased]’ and ‘Tales of the Unexpected’ enabling them to channel their inner John Barry. Throughout the track, Darren provides swirling, cinematic vamps and lush string arrangements echoing the Warsaw Concerto whilst Chris Greive’s haunting trombone and Vic Galloway, on his electric guitar, beautifully underpin the melody, transporting the listener back to a world of Black and White mystery and suspense. The previously unreleased 'Live @The Voodoo Rooms' Mix will give you an idea of what Out of the Ordinary sound like in concert.....trust me, they're fabulous.

Eric Hilton Infinite Everywhere

Eric's debut solo release Infinite Everywhere is available now
In a time where much of the world is confined and fearful comes Thievery Corporation co-founder Eric Hilton’s first solo record “Infinite Everywhere”, an elegant exploration of inner space that will leave listeners feeling replenished and centered. And while Thievery painted with a broad musical brush, genre hopping across (and sometimes within) their albums, Hilton’s solo debut is distilled, focused, and more personal. “I want every record I’m involved with to be beautiful, with empowering vibrations that recognize the spectrum of emotions,” says Hilton. The album title and concept predates the current global crisis, but is remarkably prescient, conveying feelings of melancholia and optimism in equal measures. "I don’t like defeatism, I gravitate to positivity in all things. Hopefully people get that feeling when they listen to this record.” As for the future, Hilton says: "This record is an introduction. The last 25 years have been about Thievery Corporation, I love my brethren Rob, and although that project isn’t necessarily done, my solo stuff is what the next 25 years are about."

Let Them Know (feat. The Cuban Brothers) by The Allergies

The Allergies return with another criminally good record in the shape of 'Let Them Know'.
Featuring the legendary party starters The Cuban Brothers on vocals, this sizzling slice of sunshine on wax builds to the kind of full-on carnival atmosphere we've all been wishing for right now.
It's a match made in heaven as Bristol's finest serve up a hotbed of big hip-hop drums, huge funky horns, and a fat dollop of dynamite boogaloo rhythms. The perfect backdrop, then, for Los Hermanos Cubanos to bust sick rhymes and sweet harmonies over. Allow it!
The track is bursting with fun-loving lyrical flavour and a massively catchy chorus, and hopes to be the perfect party pick me up for anyone labouring under grey skies right now.
'Let Them Know' is the latest single release in the lead-up to The Allergies' album, Say The Word, and a great indicator of the slick production, sweet collaborations, and feel good vibes that run through each and every track on there.

This 7" vinyl single comes backed with 'Lightning In A Bottle', a wax-only hip-hop club rocker featuring Andy Cooper (Ugly Duckling). And is The Allergies little bonus B-side beat for all you 45 slinging DJs out there, to say thanks for the support. Yes, friends!

Fight On! by The Harlem Gospel Travelers

All sales will be donated to The Movement For Black Lives (m4bl.org)

Group member and songwriter Thomas Gatling says this about the song:

“During slavery, songs were a form of communication for black people. These songs became known as hymns, or as our seasoned saints call them, the songs that brought us over. “Fight On” was inspired by a hymn called ”Hold On (Just A Little While Longer)”, a song used to encourage black people to not give up. Through that song, God gave me ”Fight On.” It was written to amplify the voices that for so long have fallen on deaf ears and to encourage and uplift people to continue the fight for equality and against white supremacy. Be empowered, my people. We are not thugs, we are innovators. We are intelligent and our feelings, hopes, dreams, and lives matter. Fight on, and everything's gonna be alright.

Sommer by The Ironsides

Breezy instrumental soul from California's The Ironsides. Featuring members of Monophonics, "Sommer" is a cover of an obscure 1973 song by Stig & Steen, but the mood seems very 2020 with the help of some excellent production by brothers Max and Joe Ramey. The song sets the tone for what is surely to be one of the most bizarre summers on record. As the world begins to open up and we all adjust to a new normal, there's hope but with a tempered sense of melancholy on the horizon.

A Change Is Gonna Come by Youthsayers

Sublime re-working of Sam Cooke's classic protest song by Youthsayers - our talented and hardworking group of South London teenagers, working with limited resources in lockdown isolation. A testament to positivity, strength in community and hope for the future.
Recorded individually at home during lockdown, this track represents Youthsayers' determination to continue to make uplifiting and positive sounds despite the current challenges.
Sam Cooke's remarkable civil rights era protest song (originally edited by his own label to avoid the controversy) is treated with a heavy reggae groove, sublime vocals and heartfelt playing all round by our group of talented teenagers - a song of hope, defiance and triumph over adversity and opression. Sadly all too relevant in today's political and social climate, but offering joy and the promise of a better future in the certain knowledge that A Change Is Gonna Come.

Sommeron (feat. imugi 이무기) - Satin Jackets Remix & Pleasure Centre Remixed by Kraak & Smaak

Electro funk royalty Kraak & Smaak have been world leaders in their field since bursting on to the scene back in 2006. Since then, the EBBA winners have been prolific. Six albums (excluding remix albums!), support from Pete Tong and Annie Nightingale, guest mixes on BBC Radio 1, gigs at SXSW, Coachella, Glastonbury, Bonnaroo and tours with Faithless followed as just some of the vast career highlights as the trio go from strength to strength to strength.
Sommeron is taken from their most recent album Pleasure Centre and features a vocal collab with New-Zealand's rising stars imugi 이무기. One of the more downtempo tracks from the album, a tight groove and a lush chord progression carries the track through with a sound that takes from the pallets of US folk, yacht rock, dream pop and indie. The bedroom pop style vocals glide over the track effortlessly, broken up with smooth and sumptuous brass licks and even a rap verse thrown in for good measure. A track with a real summery feel and perfect for rooftop and lounge parties. And that’s before the remix from Nu Disco revelation Satin Jackets.
Satin Jackets puts his feel-good indie dance stamp on this track bringing it in to a world of infectious summer house. As a regular charter on Hype Machine, the talented multi-instrumentalist has been making a name for himself for over fifteen years. He brings his four-to-the-floor tropical style grooves to the record, a sound that has won him fans in the form of Majestic Casual, Clash Magazine, and i-D mag in recent times and tours that have spanned across the globe in the US, Canada, Mexico and Asia.

This remix brings this already uplifting and playful record to new realms. Smooth disco and diva funk combined with these delicious indie-pop vocals are a wonderful combination and with two artists with near 100 million streams on Spotify between them, it is a track that will undoubtedly become an instant hit before growing exponentially across the summer time.

released June 12, 2020

Dutch dance aficionados - Kraak & Smaak’s sixth studio album ‘Pleasure Centre’ was their first to be released on their very own Boogie Angst imprint, and as anyone has already heard it will testify – it’s a glorious affair of dancefloor aesthetics, downtempo, pop and electronica.

Featuring an all-star cast of collaborators including Nic Hanson, Gavin Turek, Izo FitzRoy and many more, the album hit all the right notes with the likes of press heavyweights Billboard, Indie Shuffle, EARMILK and Faze Magazine.

And now we have the first installment of reworks (with more to come in a full remix album later this year), first up LA based producer Turbotito takes on the album title track ‘Pleasure Centre’ and flips it’s downtempo eastern vibes into an acid house and disco infused beat. Retaining all the mystique and joy of the original it’s destined to be a club classic and a must listen for fans of Screamadelica-era Primal Scream. Regular and extended (promo only) included!

Also we have Martin “Atjazz” Iveson taking on ‘Say The Word’. With a CV boasting over 20 years of reworking and partnering on releases for the likes of Nitin Sawhney, Bob Sinclar, Gilles Peterson, Jazzanova, Karizma, Osunlade, Zed Bias & Omar to name but a few, you know you are in good hands.

He provides a chilled out deep house cut of the Nic Hanson collaboration, complete with - yet again a promo only - instrumental flip for those who prefer their tunes that way…

Can I Call You Rose? by Thee Sacred Souls

What better way to christen Daptone’s fledgling imprint Penrose Records than with “Can I Call You Rose?,” a sumptuous and serendipitously titled mid-tempo premier by San Diego’s blossoming young soul serenaders, Thee Sacred Souls. Stepping off the stage after their very first club date, Josh, Sal, and Alex were tugged aside by producer Bosco Mann whose seasoned ears had been tickled by their set. Backs were patted, hands were shook, and three days later heads were bobbing in Mann’s Riverside studio, as the Souls laid their first notes to tape.
Inspired by the souldies around which they were reared, Alex Garcia and Sal Samano found chemistry when they began cutting bedroom demos of rhythm tracks together in 2019. Multi-instrumentals both, Alex migrated from the guitar to the drums where he discovered the sensitive touch and unique feel that would be the pillowy pulse of the bands sound, while Sal learned to carve winding bass lines through the deep spidery grooves of their vamps. Though the jams they created together were scintillating, it wasn’t until they connected with vocalist Josh Lane that the real sound of Thee Sacred Souls came into focus. Josh had recently relocated to San D. from Sacramento where he had studied singing, honing his voice into a weightless vehicle that could carry the Smokey-esque lyrics and Marvin-ous melodies he had bubbling within him. The connection was electric, Josh’s mellifluous poetry floating weightlessly atop Alex and Sal’s rhythms, and Thee Sacred Souls were born.
Their debut is backed by “Weak for Your Love,” a cold-blooded cruiser with a haunting refrain, and a likely contender for that last-call spin before the lights come on. Nothing left after this one but hitting the dusty.

BLACK JESUS EXPERIENCE (BJX) is an eight piece band playing an irresistibly danceable blend of traditional Ethiopian song and 21st Century groove. With backgrounds as diverse as the 5 countries the members of BJX hail from, their music reflects the multicultural vibrancy of the band’s hometown, Melbourne, Australia. MULATU ASTATKE does not need any introduction, does he ?

Legendary vibraphonist and “Father of Ethio-jazz”, Mulatu Astatke joins forces with Melbourne-based eight-piece Black Jesus Experience on their latest album To Know Without Knowing, an absorbing nine-track assembly of majestic Ethiopian melodies and hip-hop-infused jazz and funk grooves, released via German imprint, Agogo Records.
Recorded between Addis Ababa and Melbourne and melding Astatke’s dexterous improvised stylings and Black Jesus Experience’s penchant for transcontinental and cultural exploration, To Know Without Knowing sees Mulatu Astatke and Black Jesus Experience (or BJX) expand on their unlikely yet formidable partnership, combining illuminating original compositions and exciting new arrangements of Ethio-jazz classics.
Since pioneering the “Ethio-jazz” sound in the late 60’s, Mulatu’s ascent in to the musical stratosphere is unparalleled. Born in Jimma, Western Ethiopia, Astatke moved to Wales to study engineering, before diverting his attention to music, moving to the US, and becoming the first student from Africa at Boston’s Berklee College of Music. Blending traditional Ethiopian scales with jazz arrangements, and Latin rhythms, Astatke pioneered the “Ethio-jazz” sound, which rose to prominence in the late 90s after the renowned Éthiopiques series, alongside the reissue of Astatke’s masterwork, Mulatu of Ethiopia. Having been sampled by the likes of Nas/Damian Marley, Four Tet and Quantic, as well as contributing a number of original compositions to the OST for cult director, Jim Jarmusch’s 2005 film Broken Flowers, Astatke’s influence on the wider music community and his unrelenting mission to bring the music/culture of Ethiopia to the world continues to this very day.
Having met Astatke at his nephew’s jazz club in Addis Ababa in 2009, BJX are one of the finest contemporary purveyors of Ethio-Jazz today. Bringing together artists from across Melbourne’s thriving scene and with members of Moroccan, Zimbabwean, Maori and Ethiopian heritage. Lead saxophonist and co-founder Peter Harper’s first introduction to Ethiopian music came from his father, a music teacher for the Ethiopian Navy band in the sixties, however it was upon meeting singer and future frontwoman of BJX, Enushu Taye that his love of the country’s vibrant music history really came to the fore.
Hailing from Ethiopia, Enushu began singing for her local community from a very young age. In 1992 Taye was forced to take refuge in Cairo and years later migrated to Australia, bringing her captivating voice and remarkable life story to Melbourne, and later forming the foundation of Black Jesus Experience with Harper, Ian Dixon (trumpet/flugelhorn), Pianist, Bob Sedergreen, and the “lyrical miracle”, Zimbabwean/Australian MC, Mr. Monk, amongst others.
Referring to the instinctual gathering of knowledge passed down, To Know Without Knowing marks BJX’s and Astatke’s second collaborative studio full-length, following the release of Cradle With Humanity in 2016 and a whole host of tours across Australia and NZ. The album kicks off with a rework of Astatke’s classic composition, the meditative Mulatu featuring LA-raised hip-hop MC, Elf Transporter, before moving into Ambassa Lemdi, a song taught to Enushu by her Grandmother about a mother singing for her daughter’s wedding, welcoming the groom and the joy of uniting their families.

Lead single, Kulun Mankwaleshi is an arrangement of a Ethiopian wedding song in the uniquely Ethiopian anchi-hoye scale and features a roaring saxophone solo from Harper, whilst the subsequent Stolen Land salutes the continued struggle for First Nations people of Australia with lyrical themes surrounding land ownership, displacement and colonisation and features a poignant vocal performance by Vida Sunshyne. The album’s title track riffs off the Ethiopian tezita minor scale, its deep and propulsive feel leads into Lijay (Lij means ‘Child’ in Amharic) a simple reggae inspired jam, before moving into Afro latin soul ballad Blue Light, featuring
the dynamic Astatke on vibraphone. East Africa and Cuba unite on Astatke classic Mascaram Setaba, featuring the brilliant jazz piano stylings of Bob Sedergreen and the lively Yoruba rhythms of afrobeat master (former long-standing Musical Director for Seun Kuti), Olugbade Okunade, before the blues-inspired album finale, A Chance To Give signs off a bold and vivid nine-track LP, reminding us that Ethio-jazz is not a music of the past but a continual source of inspiration and guidance for musicians across the globe.

We Can Make It Good Together by Hard To Be Easy

HARD TO BE EASY came about from a SOUL SCRATCH session with Stephen Kaye for the band's next album. Steve had a track that he thought Dale might be right for, so they got together and cut "We Can Make It Good Together" one afternoon. Carried by Kaye's beautiful arrangement and musical talent, Spollett's lyrics and voice cry out for some understanding, compassion, and the love we all so desperately need in this slow burning, instant classic.

My Jamaican Dub b/w The Healer by Bacao Rhythm and Steel Band

Shrouded in mystery, Bacao Rhythm & Steel Band released their debut “55” on Brooklyn’s Big Crown Records. Long time multi instrumentalist and band leader Bjorn Wagner spent a few months in Trinidad & Tobago, and set out to blend the Tropical Steel into his already sharply honed Funk, Soul, and Hip Hop sensibilities. The outcome is an updated take on a classic format, a truly unique sound.

Bacao Rhythm & Steel Band is back with another crushing two-sider that is guaranteed to set dancefloors on fire and get heads nodding around the globe. The mysterious steel pan outfit hailing from Hamburg, Germany has become a staple in DJ sets from Europe to Japan, from the US to Brasil, and anywhere else these tunes have found their way to speakers. They have released a slew of classic 7”s and two critically acclaimed full length albums. With that they have set a high bar for themselves, one clearly they intend on pushing higher with this new offering.
Side A is BRSB’s take on Grace Jones’ nightclub classic “My Jamaican Guy”. They take the tune to a new height from the first beat, laying down an infectious groove that will get people out of their seats immediately. Heavy duty drums and bass shake the speakers through the intro then the pans reveal what they are covering as they play the instantly recognizable top line of the original. Rhythm guitar, heavily echoed percussion hits, and the different pan sets all combine to make this yet another instant classic from Bacao.
BRSB has received a lot of praise for their choices of covers. Occasionally reworking hits, but, most notably pulling the album cut gems from artists typically more championed by the underground. Well...here they go again, covering Erykah Badu’s homage to the late great J Dilla “The Healer”. This is the type of thing to make Spice Adams jump on his kitchen counter and scream. From the instant this comes on, necks will be snapping and faces will scrunch up as they take the original beat produced by Madlib and give it a run for its money. Shaking subwoofers with the eerie tremolo bass they replay E. Badu’s vocal melodies on the pans adding their own flourishes. Glockenspiel plays the downbeat and a clap like thunder keeps the two-step swaying, all coming together to make this another must have two-sider from Bacao Rhythm & Steel Band.

Fast Car b/w Fire (Steady Groovin Mix) by Black Pumas

The creative partnership between Grammy Award-winning guitarist / producer Adrian Quesada and 27-year-old songwriter Eric Burton. Voted Best New Band at the 2019 Austin Music Awards.

"Fast Car" written by Tracy Chapman
"To me, "Fast Car" is a song of hope, dreams and a relentless heart to go somewhere and be someone. I learned the song when I first began to busk and of the covers that I knew, it garnered the most attention from the random passerby. As a musician and artist, I’m attracted to songs that make us reflect on our daily struggles for making life worth living for."

Gonna work it by Nasa Funk ( Jayl Funk remix )

Breakbeat Paradise Recording is on a journey of pushing funk and breaks to a new audience and joining forces with Greek-based Nasa Funk who is on the very same journey. Nasa Funk released their Stand Up track on the Funk Originals 12” vinyl back in 2016 and is now ready to drop their first full EP on the label.
Nasa Funk who consists of Alexandros Spanidis: drums / Costas Chasiotis: bass / Alexandros Papoulidis: guitar / Charis Kapetanakis: saxophone, keys / Georges Perin: vocals, talkbox has been pushing funk and hiphop to the Greek audience since the late 90s which has earned a big following in though-out Greece. They are now ready to take on the world stage and has cooked up the funk anthem with the Covid relevant title: Gonna Work It. “Love will prevail” as lead singer Georges Perin puts it on this finger snapping, low-slung funk jam.
To complete the package Nasa Funk has teamed up with some of biggest talents in the electronic funk scene who are all giving their signature twist to the Gonna Work It joint.Starting off with the French producer duo Prosper & Stabfinger who took the track to a completely different dimension by giving it a state-of-the-art nu-disco treatment. Prosper & Stabfinger are known for their funky flavors and has recently journeyed into the world of disco and this remix is certainly a proof that they feel very much at home in that genre. Next up welcomes back a true BBP veteran and always reliable Jayl Funk who brings the heavy funky beats and skillfully turns the jam into a midtempo banger. Both previously mentioned remixes comewith instrumental mixes. For some alternative remixes Nasa Funk went to local DJ Mount Ten who took a more laid-back and chilled approach on the Gonna Work It track. Finally well known producer Cayetano took the original funk elements to twisted it into a trap jam. All basses are covered on this package.

True sky Heroes by Jojo Effects

As a child, the only idea was to be able to fly. At the same time, you take off
enthusiastically, ready to save the world. As an adult you need a lot more
equipment. With their new airy album "True Sky Heroes", the Wuppertal-
based NuJazz heroes from JOJO EFFECT may not save the world. But
keeping the joy of life alive is also a reasonable achievement.
Producer Jürgen Kausemann and his excellent acting artists invite you on a
sightseeing flight through space and time. The opener "Along came Fred"
already had a perfect start with gruff electric guitars and soul driven by a
powerful brass section.
Dennis Legree then interprets "No Joke" with the dynamics of a David
Bowie. The congenial Gardener of Delight & ZOUZOULECTRIC remix of
this piece also represents the pre-release of the album. The title song "True
Sky Heros" has the energy of a rousing gospel thanks to the California Soul
Diva Brenda Boykin. Jazz is the driving force in the stratosphere permeated
by sound tinkering, electro beats and remixes, through which JOJO
EFFECT glides. The British jazz crooner Iain Mackenzie celebrates the
finest Scat-inspired jazz vocals in the song "What is Right & What is
Wrong".
"True Sky Heroes" sets new rhythmic aspects in the remixes of the already
well-known songs "Too Hot for Tango" and "He Killed Capoty", which let
these titles shine in special timbres.
With the music of the incomparable Andrew Sisters and an electrical update
from Tchaikovsky's Sugar Fairy, the idea of time travel is also vigorously
served.
At the end of the album, the temporary instrumental song "Weekend Waltz"
softly initiates the landing and gently flatters the listener into the weekend.
Jürgen Kausemann and JOJO EFFECT present with their new album "True
Sky Heroes" nothing less than the music for the twenties of this millennium.

Sof Layla (Ba Hoodna) by Hoodna Orchestra

HOODNA ORCHESTRA "Sof Layla" (Ba Hoodna)
all digital formats
release date: 05. June 2020
Hoodna Afrobeat Orchestra is a 14 piece Afrobeat group from Tel aviv, playing a blend of free flow Afrobeat riddims and heavy dance-floor Afro funk.

"The inspiration for this new song came from the countless nights we ended up at the Hoodna Bar in Florentin, Tel Aviv. Perhaps we played a show there or somewhere else, met up with some friends or made new ones, just rolled out of bed and had nothing better to do. Countless nights full of inspiration, connections, ideas and flow.
On every night like this there's always a moment where you can feel tomorrow peeping from the edge of your clouded mind like the sun rising through the clouds.
That's when you know the night is over and its time to go home (or sometimes its when the real fun starts...)
The Hoodna Bar has always been a home for us and this song is us paying homage to those beautiful magical moments we shared there.
Our story with the Hoodna Bar started in 2012 when a group of musicians from south Tel Aviv formed an Afrobeat orchestra. All the hangouts and meeting took place in The Hoodna and the bar owners gave the band permission to use the storage room as a rehearsal space. the orchestra's first shows happened there and still feels like a real home for the band.
Since the recent global health crisis, The Hoodna Bar finds itself in extreme financial difficulty and started a crowdfunding campaign in order to reopen and keep open.
This new release is part of our effort to shine a light on the importance and relevance of the Hoodna to the community and revealing a small part of our special relationship with the place."

Bahama Soul Club

Bahama Soul Club
"Never Roam No More feat. John Lee Hooker"
After ‘ages’ of silence around the German soul-jazz outfit founded by Oliver Belz they are back … laid back, uber-cool and more relaxed than ever. With a matured taste of finest Algarvian vinhos BSC are working on a new album in the tranquil and inspiring environment of their new Portuguese recording studio located in an idyllic Algarvian countryside setting between Lagos and Sagres.
One of the first tracks called "Never Roam No More" includes excerpts from a 1946 recorded version from Hooker’s "My First Wife Left Me", a deeply personal reflection on loosing his wife Maude Mathis. "We love it when he speaks directly to the ‘boys’, the ‘fellas’. It’s fucking hard for men to let down their guard and show vulnerability, but it’s ten times harder with the guys due to the unwritten codes of male bonding behavior in the early 50s." So give the guy credit for his honesty, a quality shared by all the truly great blues artists. No doubt a special combination of styles to bring a legend to life... call it resurrection shuffle.

Ain't Nobody's Business ft. Billie Holiday
In singing there's a vibration that comes from deep down inside, literally from your sex. When you put out that vibration, people can feel it. Billie Holiday does it. It's very hot.“

A heartfelt wish for many years:: A song with Billie Holiday! After loads of research and rights clearance, we were absolutely stoked to find Billie's „Ain't Nobody's Business“. A beautiful composition by Everett Robbins / Porter Grainger. Legend Bessie Smith recorded it in the 20s, Jimmy Witherspoon in the 40s, and Billie made her amazing version 1949...
Now, 70 years later, Billie's sound makes love with the contemporary Latin Nu-Jazz of the Bahama Soul Club.

Let's Move by Shaka Loves You

Glasgow duo Shaka Loves You are back with their 2nd release of 2020 on Bombstrikes and as you would expect from them now, it’s a strong one. ‘Let’s Move’ is an out and out pure disco anthem which will continue to push them forward on their quest for dance floor perfection. With previous releases gaining support from the likes of Defected head honcho Simon Dunmore, Glitterbox resident Melvo Baptiste, Nightmares on Wax and Shapeshifters to name a few, plus big radio love from Craig Charles, it’s not hard to see why these guys are in big demand right now and really carving out their own place in the scene. Things have certainly changed this year for clubbing and before going into lockdown, their summer diary was already packed full of festival shows and club gigs. ‘Let’s move’ was originally to be staple part of these shows. However, rather than delay releases and put things on hold, the Shaka guys have taken the party to their fans with their online weekly live stream shows such as ‘The Lockdown Disco’ or ‘Sunday Brunch’ and continue to do their monthly shows on Soho Radio. Feel good music which most certainly means things do not need to stop and music is not cancelled! ‘Let’s Move' is a perfect antidote to these testing times as Shaka Loves You continue to bring their party to the world.
There are two versions here to choose from with the original version delivering a club and driven 4/4 arrangement, utilising the hooks and that infectious vocal call to dance with feel good vibes! The duo’s own ‘Disco Rub’ funks things out further and strips things back to create a raw but no less effective interpretation. A fantastic continuation of the pair’s musical growth which leaves us excited for what the rest of the year holds for them.

Trippin' Redux (featuring Tony Allen) by New Cool Collective

8-piece jazz combo / 21-piece Big Band still going strong after 25 years of grooving. Playing a crossover of jazz, cumbia, afro, surf, boogaloo and more.
Tony Allen was going to turn eighty this year. To celebrate this New Cool Collective had planned to release a new rendition of the recordings they made with him about fifteen years ago. To congratulate him on his birthday, to wish him well for the future and to remember their joyful meetings.
Sadly, fate decided differently. Tony passed away suddenly. The numerous obituaries and personal stories from around the world show how special Tony had been. He was one of the founding fathers of Afro Beat, but his influence reached far beyond that.
To celebrate his contribution to music in general and to acknowledge the importance of our collaboration for our development as a group they felt that they still, shouldrelease this material.

This is our tribute to Tony, who was not only a fellow musician, but also a mentor and a real source of inspiration.
