Congalizer EP [SMS019] by The Funk District

Midnight In Havana by Néstor Álvarez

Sun Tone EP by Sun Tone

Sun Tone started as random musings on a laptop from Ryan Gambrell. Taking notes from classic hip hop producers, Gambrell began shaping his own sound with jazz guitar melodies, funky bass lines, and soulful organ pads on top of boom-bap beats. The project’s debut EP finds Gambrell calling upon his arsenal of collaborators in former reggae and afrobeat projects to help him bring his musings to life. As a producer, Gambrell has worked with fellow Color Red artists Sydney, Australia’s black bird hum mixing their latest release “My Side” and producing a b-side dub. He also tracked ATOMGA’s 2014 debut EP. His bloodlines in both performance and production work are displayed in Sun Tone. The collection of songs draws in influences ranging from mellow instrumental psychedelic acts like Khruangbin and El Michaels Affairs as well as lush guitar work along the lineage of Grant Green and George Benson. The end result is a distinct blend of cinematic soul music.

Latin Dynamite / El Basement by The Kevin Fingier Collective

Fingier Records is the new Acid Jazz Records subsidiary label, dedicated exclusively to the Soul, R&B, Boogaloo and Raw Funk productions from the Argentinean producer Kevin Fingier.

After the outstanding success of the first single Don't Wanna Cry No More, Argentinian producer Kevin Fingier comes with a must-have instrumental double sider.
Side A presents 'Latin Dynamite', an explosive tune which could have been the soundtrack of Ramsey Lewis and Mongo Santamaría visiting Soho together around mid 60s, it's a perfect mix of Mod Jazz and Boogaloo with a very cinematic feel. On the B side we have the obscure and groovy 'El Basement', a stunning R&B dancer with a killer flute solo and a screaming hammond.
This record shows the vision behind Fingier Records, this Acid Jazz Records subsidiary, which claimed from the beginning 'Underground Soul, R&B, Boogaloo and Raw Funk'. "I don't want this label to be something strict, I want to explore the whole universe around Soul music, what happened before and after, and what happened at that same time, when people from other countries such us Puerto Rico, Brasil or Nigeria mixed their cultural music with Soul, Jazz and Funk" says Kevin Fingier.

The release will be limited, and the release date will be the 11th December.

Harlem Hipshake by Bongolian

The Bongolian is the alter ego of Big Boss Man frontman Nasser Bouzida and this is his sixth album inspired by the Latin Soul scene of 1960s New York. He is a drummer and percussionist by trade (hence the moniker) but here he plays all manner of instruments on an album that whilst percussion heavy, utilises a brass section which includes Terry Edwards (Gallon Drunk etc etc).

Live at Pappy & Harriet's: In Person From the High Desert by Nick Waterhouse

It's only fitting that Nick Waterhouse's first ever live album was recorded at the legendary Pappy & Harriet's. Growing up in Southern California, this roadhouse in the middle of the desert is as iconic as it gets. Waterhouse turned it into a sweat filled rhythm & blues stomper of an evening. In fact, the Waterhouse sonic world might look a lot like a glimmering desert sky at dusk, or the damp, overheated air that awaits through the doors of Pappy's. And now we’re invited in.

Derun EP by Derun

Will I See You Again? by Thee Sacred Souls

Inspired by the souldies around which they were reared, Alex Garcia and Sal Samano found chemistry when they began cutting bedroom demos of rhythm tracks together in 2019. Multi-instrumentals both, Alex migrated from the guitar to the drums where he discovered the sensitive touch and unique feel that would be the pillowy pulse of the bands sound, while Sal learned to carve winding bass lines through the deep spidery grooves of their vamps. Though the jams they created together were scintillating, it wasn’t until they connected with vocalist Josh Lane that the real sound of Thee Sacred Souls came into focus. Josh had recently relocated to San D. from Sacramento where he had studied singing, honing his voice into a weightless vehicle that could carry the Smokey-esque lyrics and Marvin-ous melodies he had bubbling within him. The connection was electric, Josh’s mellifluous poetry floating weightlessly atop Alex and Sal’s rhythms, and Thee Sacred Souls were born.

Friendly Fire (15th Anniversary)" Single by The Smakalites

The song "Friendly Fire" caused admiration among producers and DJs such as Will Holland "Quantic", Victor Rice, Craig Charles (BBC-6 Music), Dusty "Jazz & Milk", Rude BarrioBeat, ... and was included as a bonus track again on Makala's album "Unexpected Tapas" (Lovemonk 2011). Without a doubt a classic cut of the most genuine Ska !!!

Afro-Disiac EP [SMS017] by C. Da Afro

Hot on the heels of what is proving to be one of the EP’s of the year in Funk Purpose Volume 3 Samosa Records keep their 2020 heat going with everyone’s favourite work-a-holic Greek disco missionary C.Da Afro.
He’s a producer with disco and house flowing through his veins and is back with another monster of an EP here.
Featuring three tracks of divine disco infused with sultry Latin flavours it’s a beautifully balanced release. First up is the eponymous title track in 'Afro-Disiac'. This one is deep groove and brass heavy house. The expressive bass groove lays the foundation for some stellar brass stabs and solos galore with some wonderful guitar licks keeping the track fresh and funky through-out. It’s a track for those wonderfully warm summers’ days when we have nothing more to worry about than to dance in the Ibizan sun.
Next up is 'Smoothie' a deeper but no less groove infused track. Again packed to the hilt with some wonderful brass work, it’s another Latin edged track with a hooky vocal which grabs you by the scruff of the neck and bounces you all the way to the middle of the throng on the dance-floor. Solid percussion work keeps the energy levels deceptively high here. A seriously smooth track indeed!
Closing the EP out co-label boss De Gama goes to work on the edit of 'Brazilian Groove'. This one is a track which originally popped up on C.Da Afro’s Expresso EP on Samosa a year ago and went on to be a huge DJ favourite across the rest of the year. Giving it a slightly tougher feel De Gama has kept all the best moments of the original intact adding in extra percussion and a heavier kit to take it straight to the main room. A solid rework which will give this one strong legs to see it through another year.

A wonderful EP all round yet again for both Samosa and C.Da Afro and another one that is going to fly when it hits the shelves so make sure you get on that pre-order sharpish.

Razor-N-Tape RNTD056 // Remixes De Oro by Elia y Elizabeth

RNT takes a trip south with some fresh modern takes on a pair of Colombian tropicalia classics from the 1970s! Sisters Elia and Elizabeth Fleta recorded some of the most beloved rare groove from Baranquilla's early-70s period, and when Jaime Tuiran (Vagabundo Club Social) brought the project to label owners Aaron Dae and JKriv, they jumped at the opportunity to work with such rarefied source material. To kick things off, the mysterious newcomer producer Demi Riquisimo crafts a synth-laden tropical opus of a remix of Elia y Elizabeth's signature hit 'Alegria,' and the ever solid Parisian Yuksek works the tune into a concise and mid tempo disco stomper. On the flip, Bostonian-come-Colombian BOSQ turns 'Soy Una Nube' into an uptempo soul banger, and Baranquilla natives Vagabundo Club Social lend their homegrown organic and clubby style to their mix of 'Alegria.' The perfect blend of earthy OG soul with modern and musical production, this release is as colorful and vibrant as the streets of Baranquilla during Carnaval. And RNT is throwing in solid new masters of the original songs, to boot!

Another Shot Fired by The Tibbs

Record Kicks pres. "Another Shot Fired" the sophomore album by Dutch Premiere soul band The Tibbs.
Record Kicks proudly present the The Tibbs new album "Another Shot Fired" coming out on CD – LP – Digital November 20th. Recorded at Electric Monkey in Amsterdam, produced by Paul Willemsen (Lefties Soul Connection, Michelle David & The Gospel Sessions) and mastered in Nashville by Soul veterans Bob Olhsson, who used to cut vinyl for Motown back in the day.
"Another Shot Fired" is the second studio album from the Dutch soul combo and introduces a new singer to the project, the young super-talentedRoxanne Hartogwho penned the lyrics of most of the songs on the album.
On the new album the formula remains the same employed by classic soul record labels like Stax and Motown: a super tight house band, first class production, some wicked arrangments and a signature vocalist. Think- The Marvellets, Booker T and the MGs, James Brown, The Supremes.
From the smashing opener "The Main Course" to the last dark instrumental groover "Circeo" the 12 tracks of the new album prooves that The Tibbs can do no wrong. The sound is vintage, gritty and raw with some extra doses of RNR on the bluesy number "Mama Says" and even throws in some sun soaked reggae vibes in their title track "Another Shot Fired". Roxanne is perfectly at ease and brings the heat as she sweats her way through each number while the rest of the band deliver their unique super tight blend of garage soul.
Based around Amsterdam, The Tibbs took off in 2012 - fronted by Elsa Bekman – covering a lesser-trodden path, combining special soul classics with rare beat instrumentals. Their increasing popularity quickly led to a natural desire to expand their repertoire, beyond the confines of others' thinking outside the traditional box and creating their own unique soulful creations.
Working right from the start with producer Paul Willemsen (Beans & Fatback, Lefties Soul Connection, Michelle David & The Gospel Sessions), the first EP "Cleaned Out" debuted in 2014. Later that year, the German funk label Tramp Records released their debut single – "Footprints In The Sand/Cleaned Out". Two years later, The Tibbs' first LP, "Takin' Over" marked their debut with Milan based imprint Record Kicks. The singles "Next Time" and "The Story Goes" received critical acclaim on radio stations throughout Europe and North America and the 45s flew out the door in record time.
The release of "Takin' Over" delivered the band far richer rewards. Playing sold-out venues in both Milan and Frankfurt. The Tibbs' profile rose further still with wonderful festival performances in Germany and Hungary, followed by a successful sold-out tour of Spain. In late 2018, Elsa decided to follow her heart and focus on a solo career. The Tibbs duly began their search for a truly worthy successor, bringing astonishing vocalist Roxanne Hartog and the band together for the first time.

With new recordings in the bag and a great new album about to be released, The Tibbs are once more ready for lift off.

Rainbow In Your Cloud by Myles Sanko - Legere recordings

Legere recordings

Myles Sanko is very pleased to unveil “Rainbow In Your Cloud”, the second single taken from his forthcoming new album “Memories of Love”. The album will be released on Friday 12th March 2021 and is now available for pre-order in limited edition gatefold, deluxe edition CD and digital versions. “Rainbow In Your Cloud” launches with a freshly filmed music video, recorded up in the clouds of the Pyrenees-Orientales mountains.
“Rainbow In Your Cloud” reverberates atmosphere with its funky backbeat and beautiful vocals. This is one of the songs fans will already be familiar with from some of his more recent concerts. When speaking of his intention behind the song, Myles explains “This song is a celebration of love. Letting everyone know that you've finally found meaningful love worth shouting about and expressing to the world. Even though your world might seem cloudy and grey at times, don't you worry because there is a colourful rainbow inside ready to come out. I know this because I’ve been there so many times.” The song is a classic Myles Sanko upbeat ballad, with heartfelt lyrics that evoke hope. He abandons logic for a mere chance at seeing love's promise bloom. Myles’ beautiful vocals is accompanied by his long-time band, who also collaborated so magnificently on Just Being Me, featuring pianist Tom O’Grady, bassist Jon Mapp, guitarist Phil Stevenson, drummer Rick Hudson, saxophonist Gareth Lumbers, trumpeter Samuel Ewens and trombonist David Liddell, plus a powerful backing vocals performance from Jaelee Small, Chantal Brown and Chris Moncrieff.
“This album is my most personal album yet, each song is a memory of love, a story of love, good or bad, happy or sad. Love is not always as we picture it in fairy tales but a work in progress for as long as we choose to love. Over the years I have written love songs and most of them have some reality in them but also a lot of fiction. Maybe this was because I wasn't truly ready to share that part of me in a way that I am definitely more comfortable doing now. I'd say becoming a father has changed my outlook and made me a little more brave and accepting of myself”.
“Memories Of Love” is an album full of dedication. The soul poetry of Myles Sanko allows you to find a home in it which Myles hopes creates space for a healing effect. His journey took him to many stages, places and homes. With this album, it is certainly the most interesting and intriguing stop of this journey yet.

The Jet Leg feat. Ryo Nakata (Osaka Monaurail) / Wolf (Instrumental) by Q.A.S.B.

Y Su Descarga Internacional by bosq

Cape Cod, Massachusetts born & Medellín, Colombia based, Bosq has been tirelessly exploring the intersections of Afro-Latin music with Disco, Funk, Reggae, House and Hip Hop for years.

Bosq’s most fully realized project to date, picks up where 2018’s Love & Resistance left off, filled with Disco and Funk steeped in Afro Latin rhythms and influences. The results reflect his unique vision and finds more genre defying dance floor amalgamations and less of the clearly traceable homages from some of his earlier work. Bosq pairs again with longtime collaborator, the Benin born, Fela Kuti & Egypt 80 alumni Kaleta, as well as new ones like Nidia Góngora, K.O.G, and Justo Valdez of Son Palenque.
The album is Bosq’s first full project since relocating from Boston to Medellín, Colombia, a little over 3 years ago. The move stemmed from a reevaluation of what it means to contribute and be a part of a musical community vs. merely borrowing the sounds that inspired him from afar. Part of this meant not rushing to release music influenced by his new surroundings, but studying with local music teachers, developing relationships with artists and studios throughout the country, and getting his bearings in the day to day life of a new country and a new language.
Bosq elaborates, “This album contains the experiences, inspiration, frustration and magic of my first few years living in Medellín, Colombia after moving here from Boston, all wrapped into album form. After years of working with musicians and styles from around the world from my old homebase, I started to honestly reevaluate what I was doing. Appropriation tends to be an easy catch all, but more deeply I was wondering, am I contributing something or am I only borrowing? Can I really understand the music that’s inspiring me just by listening to it? I wanted my work to be more authentic artistically, but more important to me is getting to a point where my music is giving something back and creating value for the musicians who are keeping the traditions of this music alive. If I’m making music inspired by Afro Latin rhythms and sounds, then any success I have, needs to create success for people in those communities as well.”
The transition, while awe inspiring and exciting, was not always easy. Everything from government bureaucracy to an on-the-fly electrician lesson in order to avoid constant equipment shocks from grounding issues at his new studio, made for a few extra months of frustrating delays.
Once he finally settled into his new home studio in the lush mountains surrounding Medellín, Bosq began to sketch out what would eventually become this album. The skeletons of the songs all took form there, recorded piece by piece and layer by layer, playing & writing as much as he could himself until the songs seemed ready to become something more. From there, trips to Bogotá to record horn sections in Mambo Negro Records, Cartagena to collaborate with Colombian Folkloric music legend Justo Valdez, and New York City to reunite with Kaleta provided the material to flesh out this growing collection of tracks.
The results are a varied but cohesive collection of songs most definitely geared towards the dance floor or festival grounds without giving up anything in terms of musical complexity. The sound is organic and could easily be mistaken for a live band at first listen, but years of touring the world as a DJ have given Bosq the sensitivity to give just enough of an electronic edge to make the tracks shake a modern sound system like a proper house track. The vibrancy this combination brings to any party has been noted by DJ’s around the world, with the first two singles, “Rumbero” & “Wake Up” topping both vinyl and digital sales charts and racking up plays from everyone from Detroit Swindle to Yuksek to Crazy P.

The rest of the album expertly weaves threads of Cumbia, Afrobeat, Salsa, Calypso, Antillean styles & Tropical Soul into Disco & Funk anchored tapestries that in most cases defy easy genre classifications. The record is not only a love letter to the musical melting pot of Colombia that Bosq now calls home, but his attempt to truly add something new and unique to the current musical landscape in a way that respects the originators, in part by not following their blueprints too precisely.
Bosq’s music has seen consistent play from the likes of Gilles Peterson & Craig Charles on the BBC, KCRW, RinseFM & other legendary radio stations, while DJ’s like Kerri Chandler, Poolside, Yuksek, Palms Trax, Soul Clap, & GUTS give his tunes constant rotation in clubs and at festivals. Tours have taken Bosq across North & South America, Europe, and Asia, to clubs and festivals like Rakastella (Miami), OYA (Oslo), Boomtown Fair (UK) and many more. He has shared stages with the likes of Joe Claussel, Bobbito, J Rocc & Tony Touch to name a few. His music has been featured in films and television such as The Catch, You’re The Worst, Broad City, and more.

Dear Sunny... by Various Artists

 Big crown records

Big Crown Records is proud to present Dear Sunny… a compilation of Sunny & The Sunliners covers by Big Crown artists.

Since the first time we heard “Should I Take You Home” by Sunny & The Sunliners, we have been avid fans. That record, which we were introduced to on MF Classy Chris’ now legendary mixtape, The Time Is Right, set a lot of things in motion. It started of course with tracking down copies and collecting all of Sunny’s records for our personal collections. That quickly turned into the desire to reissue some of his vast catalog on our label for the rest of the world to hear. We got in touch with Sunny and his son David and brought the idea to them. It took a lot of phone calls, a visit to their home in San Antonio, and three more years of calls and emails to convince them that our New York record label was a good place for them to entrust their music. After getting to know each other well enough Dave said, “You have been calling us non-stop for more than three years, you MUST mean what you are saying” and with that, we signed a deal to do a reissue project on Big Crown.

We then flew out to San Antonio again, this time with a scanner and a videographer. We sat down with Sunny to interview him, went through his vast collection of photos, and talked about his life and career. Sunny was even kind enough to let us film him performing acoustic versions of a few songs. We used all of that material for our 2017 compilation, Mr Brown Eyed Soul. That release is our highlight reel of Sunny’s Soul tunes. Looking back at the response to that compilation, it is safe to say that we achieved our goal of connecting a whole new audience to Sunny’s incredible music. We also made his rarest records readily available to collectors at a price that wouldn’t empty their pockets. The concept for Dear Sunny… came to us right after we signed the deal. We wanted our artists to cover his music as a tribute to him.

Three years later and on the cusp of Sunny’s 77th birthday we are ready to release this homage to the living legend, San Antonio’s finest, Mr. Brown Eyed Soul, Sunny Ozuna. Everyone here stepped up to fill very big shoes doing these covers. Bobby Oroza teamed up with Cold Diamond & Mink and made a smashing version of “Should I Take You Home”. The Shacks took on the anthemic “Smile Now, Cry Later” while Holy Hive covers “If I Could See You Now” building off the uptempo dance floor energy of the original. Paul & The Tall Trees bring a crooning vibe to “Rain Makes Me Blue” and Brainstory turned “Runaway” into a haunting ballad reminiscent of early Lee Hazelwood productions. Some of these turn out to be covers of covers. Bacao Rhythm & Steel Band takes on the funk collector’s holy grail from Sunny, his cover of War’s “Get Down” while 79.5 take Sunny’s version of “My Dream” and change the vibe from a floating love song to theme music for the brokenhearted. Mr. Lee Fields does “The One Who’s Hurting Is You” and the latest addition to the Big Crown Roster, Lizette and Quevin, do a rendition of the song that brought Sunny to Dick Clark’s American Bandstand in 1963 and catapulted him to fame; his cover of Little Willie John’s “Talk To Me”.

So as the letter begins, “Dear Sunny...” we hope that you enjoy this homage Sir. We wish you a very Happy Birthday and many more. Thank you for all the music you have given all of us, it has been a pleasure to work with you and to get a chance to know you and your family. We will keep calling Dave every other week trying to get you in the studio with Leon to record some new material until it happens or you flat out tell us no...but all jokes aside, thank you Sunny. This was all really a dream come true for us.

22:22 by Marta Ren

Portuguese Funk ‘N’ Roll sensation Marta Ren to release new single ‘22:22’, October 23rd via Record Kicks

Since Marta Ren went solo from her band The Groovelvets, her groove has been not up for negotiation; whoever she meets in the studio or on stage, whether it be with a band, a producer or even an orchestra (or two), asserting her own destiny as a leader of her signature “Funk 'N’ Roll” sound.
With her latest single “22:22”, she references her continuous need to be honest with herself, struggling internally for the need to listen to herself whilst dealing with the challenges of pleasing other people.
At a time when the word “activism” is used as a communication accessory, here the artist assumes something essential to change the paradigm: to listen and make our voices heard, as much as we reach out as a human gesture kindness.
Over the last few years Marta has played extensively across Europe, playing numerous festivals such as Transmusicalles in France and Eurosonic in the Netherlands, the UK’s well established Mostly Jazz Funk & Soul Festival as well as the highly regarded Sziget Festival in Hungary.
Towards the end of 2019, Marta invited the Matosinhos Jazz Orchestra to interpret her repertoire, which included songs from her album “Stop Look Listen“, her most recent single “Worth It”, as well as classic themes from the American Songbook.
In the midst of a global pandemic, she performed with the Matosinhos Jazz Orchestra as part of one Portugal’s most cherished festivals the Avante Festival in Amora, which was aired by Antena3 / RTP TV station in her home country, Portugal, where she is a household name, it also gave her fans the opportunity to hear a taste of latest single “22:22”, released October 23rd via Records Kicks.

Record Kicks proudly presents "Damaged Heart", the first single taken from The Tibbs forthcoming new album "Another Shot Fired", that will hit the streets on November 20.
"Damaged Heart", a catchy mid tempo soulful gem, will be released on October 09 on digital streaming/download and a limited edition 45 vinyl. On the flip-side of the limited 45 the soulful album's bonus track "Ball and Chain". The 45 is limited to 500 copies worldwide.
According to the band, "Damaged Heart" is a love song and "It's about being in a relationship where something is just slightly off. Sometimes developing serious feelings for someone can be scary. Being vulnerable, and knowing that someone could hurt you very easily can be scary".
Based around Amsterdam, The Tibbs took off in 2012 working right from the start with producer Paul Willemsen (Beans & Fatback, Lefties Soul Connection, Michelle David & The Gospel Sessions). In 2016 their first LP, "Takin' Over" marked their debut with Milan based imprint Record Kicks.

Dune Whispers by BAC

 Shango records

Dune Whispers of Caladan Seas takes place during the Harkonnen attack on Arrakis during the night of a thousand candles. It depicts a group of Atreides soldiers trapped in a cave in the Shield Wall outside Arrakeen. One of the soldiers, a master story teller, recounts tales of Caladan, the sea-covered ancestral homeworld of House Atreides. A group of Fremen warriors found the soldiers shortly after, and discover that the soldiers have all magically drowned — a fate that has never happened previously on the desert planet of Arrakis. They said that the soldiers drowned in a sea of magical whispers, a myth that remains untold till nowadays strange times. Now is the time for this story to be told and nobody can do it better than us. Bac holds dune in one hands and whispers in the other. This is his first offering for Shango Records. This track can build the end into the beginning and tell you stories about the sea of whispers. Jack Essek, Kosh, Manati and Orkidz are warriors from Arrakeen.

Casual Love by Slackwax feat. Don Cavalli

For their new single „Casual Love” Germany’s finest Downbeat Funksters team up with the french born rockabilly singer Don Cavalli. In a unique stlye & fashion his voice brings a good amount of goose bumps on the back of one of those classic Slackwax productions deeply drowned in southern swamp and gospel vibes. Don’t miss this very well produced piece of modern rural R&B with some electronics as the icing of the cake.

Call My Name by Joe Bataan

This whole project grew out of a song called ‘Cycles Of You’, which I had written around 2000-2001 with the guitarist and bassist of my band at the time, Easy. The chord progression and vocal melody really reminded me of Bataan, and it occurred to me that it wouldn’t be impossible to get him into the studio to do a guest vocal if we ever recorded it. I had met Bataan a few years before at a small, family-reunion style show at the Nuyorican Poets Cafe in my neighborhood, where he not only still sounded great, but was also gracious and easy to talk to. By the time we got around to recording with Easy, the band was about to break up but we still had the studio booked. We all agreed that we didn’t want to continue as a band, but at the same time, it would be a shame to never record what we had been working on. Around this time Bataan was playing out again, so I went to the show to see him and find out if he’d be interested in doing some vocals with us. He was agreeable, so we decided to turn it into a Joe Bataan session and do ‘Cycles Of You’. The funny thing is, ‘Chick-A-Boom’, a live favorite with Easy, was hastily added so we could have a B-side, but it ended up chosen to be the A-side of the single. When I got the opportunity from Vampisoul to do a full album, I was hoping Bataan and I could write some songs together, but our schedules proved tough to coordinate. I figured the best way to go about it was to do most of the work and just have him come sing on it. I thought this might be a little weird for him, since he is used to writing and producing most of his own records, but he was open to it. The rhythm section was a band called TransLove Airways that I formed in 2002. We got really tight and developed a great sound that was, to me, equal parts Heart, Shocking Blue, Brian Auger and Rare Earth. If you listen closely, you can hear Bataan say our name in the beginning of ‘Keep The Change’. To this core group I added pieces from a few other local bands: The Middle Initials, who are a great Temptations/Main Ingredient-style vocal group, and members of an incredible Latin band called Grupo Latin Vibe, who were responsible for almost all the percussion and the vibraphone solo on ‘I’m The Fool Pt 2’. There was also some fine trombone playing by Aaron Johnson of Antibalas and great flute work by Neal Sugarman and my cousin Sonny. I consider myself very lucky to know and to have the opportunity to be able to work with these talented musicians. (Daniel Collás, producer of “Call My Name”).

Yuil Disco Boom (Prosper & Stabfinger Remix) & I'll Be Ok (Dj Laurel Remix) by Timewarp inc

This is the fifth remix single release from Timewarp inc’s fourth studio LP album “Theory of Revolution”. And this one is brought to you by the well known and established French freestyle duo project Prosper & Stabfinger. These guys did collaborations with names like: Ashley Slater, Georges Perin, Too Many T’s and Everyman and Awoke to name a few. Here we present you an exceptional dance-floor monster disco-funk-house remix made to rock on the dance floors, and dedicated to all those groovers that wants some hip hop spice with a soul! This remix was made under a unique re- mixing request to blend a concept of two Timewarp inc original tracks. Yuil Disco Breaks is the first one here, that is the main music theme of the remix that holds some soul and funk vocal hooks by Salomi Vasileiadou, while the second featuring song is Economic Boom. From here they just used the main hiphop vocal parts from the original performed by the The Mage. Finally we get a smashing remix that will stay in your crate for along time. An instrumental version of the remix is also included on the release. Both original songs appeared on Timewarp inc’s latest double vinyl album. Roots People by Funky Destination

Almost one year after his last album in the beginning of 2020, Funky Destination returns back with his brand new, the sixth, studio solo LP album “Roots People”.
Croatian based producer Vladimir Sivc a.k.a Funky Destination managed to bring it on for us, once again. The glorious funk and the groove is the main fundamental concept that he focuses on this new album.
“Roots People” features fourteen strong tracks, all of them holds warm and groovy baselines, supersonic breaks glued in a special way with hot soul melodies and funky tones.
You will discover the fresh funkiness easy here, as it is used with an intelligent and clever way over his arrangements as always. But down under it’s all made in a modern electronic beat-making thinking, combined with old school and a rare groove mood. The album moves from R&B, soul, funk and pumping disco, to meet those breakbeats and blues combined with an organic and vintage sound overall. Percussive and colourful cooked with catchy vocals. With this album you can’t go wrong.

Audiophile Analog Mastering: Angelos Timewarp Stoumpos at Timewarp Mastering
Cover Design: Vagelis Phocas
Funky Destination - Roots People will be available on October 16, 2020 for sale in special edition CDR and digital download at timewarpstore and all digital music retailers worldwide.

Pushing Too Hard by Nick Waterhouse

This song was recorded on a rainy day in Memphis with a crew of tough and capable players. While the original composer, Sky Saxon, may have had a specific cause & effect situation on his mind when he wrote it, it has become a bit of holistic form of musical self-hypnosis over the years for me. What to do when circumstance has pushed you into the narrow valley of precarity? Well, you lay down... or you push back. Especially with a well worn (mistake not for blunt object, dear listener) and thereby well-loved and powerful talisman. Special featured guest vocalists on the chorus are Memphis’ own gospel killers The Sensational Barnes Bros. & Los Angeles treasure Little Willie G of Thee Midniters.

Long in the Tooth by The Budos Band

Celebrating 15 years from the release of their debut album, Daptone's Royal Court from Staten Island delivers a truly epic collection of new material that finds the group further bridging the gap between the farfisa-fueled Ethio-Funk stylings of their early recordings, with the psychedelic, Sabbath-inspired hellfire of late.
“In some ways, it’s reminiscent of our first two albums The Budos Band and Budos II,” says Tom Brenneck. “We branched off on Burnt Offering and V. Now, we’re still moving forward. You can play these songs on the dance-floor. We knew the horns had to stand out too. Thinking about hip-hop allowed us to put the bounce back into The Budos.” This is evident from needle drop to final rotation. Heavy drum breaks, reminiscent of the B-Boy approved grooves of their early output reign supreme, setting the stage for the pulsating, hallucinatory wall of organ, menacing horns, and rugged guitar riffs to permeate your soul - leaving the listener in a rhythmic wash of Budonian rapture.

Long in the Tooth represents the culmination of a 15-year journey by a band that has consistently carved its own distinct path through the grooves of history.

He already opened shows for Afrika Bambaataa, Grand Master Flash, Mos Def, Ice Cube, Questlove and is known for his fiery gigs around the world. »Let The Soul Pride In« is a b-boy driven soul / psyche rock classic with heavy breaks and much energy for the dancefloor with a very DJ friendly intro and outro at 120 BPM. It's a re-make of the Jungle Brothers »J Beez Comin' Through« blended with Clipse »When The Last Time« plus bonus beats for all the djs who love to play around. Introducing by Aaron Frazer

Colemine records

Aaron Frazer (of Durand Jones & The Indications) is pleased to announce his debut album, Introducing..., out January 8th, 2021 via Dead Oceans and Easy Eye Sound, alongside lead single, “Over You,” and its accompanying video. A testament to his wide-ranging influence and deep gratitude for his musical community, Introducing... is both loving and gracious, critical without losing hope, and a showcase of a young artist on a seriously soulful ascent. Working with producer Dan Auerbach of The Black Keys, Frazer expertly calibrates consciousness-raising, as previewed by early single “Bad News,” and the desire to be enveloped by love. Where previous songs were written in a partial state of turmoil, Frazer’s debut LP shows maturation and range.
Soft-spoken with the look of a slightly disaffected 1950s matinee idol, Frazer possesses a unique voice that’s both contemporary and timeless. The Brooklyn-based, Baltimore-raised songwriter first came into the international spotlight as the drummer and co-lead singer for Durand Jones & The Indications. He’s certainly created a community through his work with the Indications, gospel-soul project The Flying Stars of Brooklyn, and countless side shows in Bloomington and New York. Throughout, Frazer has used music to call attention to issues of inequity and injustice, while highlighting the work of organizations like the Poor People’s Campaign. “It’s important ethically to try to use music for good. If you have something to say politically, don’t hide it until it’s asked about,” he says, adding that Introducing... balances songs of happiness with more political messages.
The 12 songs on Introducing... combine ‘70s soul with Auerbach’s particular sensibilities, and include songs with a message in the key of Gil Scott-Heron, as well as uplifting tales of love told through a blend of disco, gospel, and doo-wop. The album was recorded in a week at Auerbach’s antique and ephemera-laden studio in Nashville following a rapid and prolific songwriting session. “Dan likes to have this writing process where you just let go and embrace the kind of pressure cooker environment that comes with extreme time limitation,” Aaron says, adding that the writing sessions pushed him creatively. Dan brought in legendary songwriters such as L. Russell Brown, who wrote hits for fellow falsetto Frankie Valli and co-wrote the album’s opening track, “You Don’t Wanna Be My Baby”. Dan adds: “As soon as Aaron started singing, Russell looked at me and his eyes lit up. He instantly understood Aaron; it was a perfect, effortless way to start the record.”

New single “Over You” is telling of the collaboration between Frazer and Auerbach. “‘Over You’ is inspired by the legendary northern soul 45s that electrified dance floors across the UK in the 1960s,” says Aaron. “Breakneck speeds and breakbeat drums challenged even the best dancers to pull out all the stops. Lyrically, ‘Over You’ captures a moment of despair in the darkest hour of a breakup. But sometimes to feel better, you just gotta shake your ass.” The accompanying video, directed by Marc Parroquin, visualizes this spirit, with a psychedelic color scheme, a slick car, and a smoky dancefloor.

For Introducing..., Auerbach called on a crew of heavy session players -- including members of the Memphis Boys (who played on Dusty Springfield’s “Son of A Preacher Man” and Aretha Franklin’s “You Make Me Feel Like A Natural Woman”), symphony percussionist Sam Bacco, and several members of the Daptone-Big Crown Records universe .“I really didn't want to make a retro record with Aaron; I wanted it to be its own thing, have its own sound. The crew had not made records together before, so it was a very fresh feeling that I think will strike a chord with people. There's this amazing cross-section of musicians, young and old, with Aaron leading the way.” With a collaborative vision, Introducing... manages to hit the sweet spot between intuition, intentionality, and craft – a love song that’s both personal and universal.

Moving Ahead by Gerardo Frisina

“Moving Ahead” is the long-awaited new work by Gerardo Frisina, a double LP worth of new material that gathers together the various sounds that have characterized his entire production. The experience collected over this long period therefore strongly affects a multiform album whose stylistic components are easily identifable (Latin jazz, nu-jazz, Afro-Cuban, dub, electronic music) but that transcends any possible classifcation as a whole.
The musical evolution of “Moving Ahead” is centered on hypnotic and pushing rhythmic patterns, on which the various guest musicians express themselves with all their melodic and emotional intensity. In addition to the already known Gendrickson Mena (trumpet), Ernesto Lopez (drums and percussion), Alfonso Deidda (baritone sax, flute) and Fabrizio Bernasconi (piano, Fender Rhodes), a special mention must be credited to Haruna Kuyateh, a young Gambian whom Gerardo saw performing as a street artist by pure chance by walking around the town of Milan: thanks to his instrument, the kora, the album’s sound spectrum is enriched with new sensations in the songs “Naihi”, “Naihi’s Son” and “Kerewan”.
From the “Marombo” EP, which anticipated this release, “Moving Ahead” also delivers a new version of its title-track, with a slightly different rhythm and with the addition of the vibraphone. The CD version of this record also includes the second part of “Marombo” and the exclusive “Mwanga”, a bonus track not present in the 2LP edition.
In short, “Moving Ahead” is the mature continuation of a 20-year long solo career, started in the early 2000s with “Ad Lib”, that once again demonstrates how Gerardo’s creativity still manifests itself today at very high levels.

Fondue Party by Polyrhythmics

Fondue Party is a concept record of tracks recorded during the Man from the Future sessions, but deliberately saved for this EP. This collection of songs explores the group’s downtempo, chilled-out side with heavy dub influence. While past releases mirror the group’s live performances with diverse and dynamic sets taking you on a journey with lots of twists and turns along the way, Fondue Party fits a vibe of its own and is intentionally different than past releases. The EP will also commemorate the band’s 10th anniversary and serves as a special treat to longtime fans while making ears perk up for new listeners.
Hot off the heels of their most recent record ‘Man from the Future,’ Seattle-based psychedelic funk group, Polyrhythmics have announced a follow-up EP ‘Fondue Party’ that will come out on Color Red on December 4, 2020.
Fondue Party is a concept record of tunes recorded during the ‘Man from the Future’ sessions, but deliberately saved for this EP. This collection of songs explores the group’s downtempo, chilled-out side with heavy dub influence. While past releases mirror the group’s live performances with diverse and dynamic sets taking you on a journey with lots of twists and turns along the way, ‘Fondue Party’ fits a vibe of its own and is intentionally different than past releases. In addition, the EP commemorates the band’s 10th anniversary and serves as a special treat to longtime fans, while perking up the ears of new listeners.
“We wanted to do something different this time. It feels appropriate given all the changes happening in our world and 2020 marking the 10th anniversary of the band’s existence,” says drummer, Grant Schroff, “ We wanted to make an EP that has a vibe to it as a whole. As COVID rages on and the weather turns colder, we will once again be retreating back into our homes. We wanted to offer a record that people can reach for when they want to light a candle and have a chill night at home, take a puff and do the dishes or have a Fondue Party with some close friends.”
The lead single “Zion” comes out this Friday, October 9th. Featuring a sauntering bass line by Jason Gray, swirling synthesizer leads of Nathan Spicer, and echoing horn response lines, the track thrives on open space and layers. Just as the EP itself is a launchpad into slower grooves, the single itself is a catalyst for laid back, cooled out vibes as seasons change and we enter the autumn months. It sets the table for the ‘Fondue Party’ to come.

Leave your head On by Cubaneros

Cubaneros are back with an amazing music video of their new cover of the classic "You Can Leave Your Hat On"! Cubaneros is a Greek-Cuban band formed in the summer of 2015 by singer Anaisa Vega Castillo, keyboardist / singer Panos Panagopoulos and singer / percussionist Indhira Xiques. Their repertoire includes Salsa, Bachata, Reggaeton and other latin covers by artists such as: Celia Cruz, Mark Anthony, Los Van Van, Gente de Zona, Enrique Inglesias and others.
However, the list of covers has recently grown with the addition of the unforgettable "You Can Leave Your Hat On" to a Salsa Version. The song was first released in 1972 by Randy Newman and became even more famous in 1986 when Joe Cocker performed it for the movie "9“ Weeks "and the now legendary striptease scene with Kim Basinger! In the video, Panagiotis Artemakis and Sofia Spyropoulou (Greek champion in salsa solo and salsa in pairs) dance.

Norma Jean by Napoleon Demps

Making his debut on Daptone Records, it brings us great pleasure to introduce the baddest new voice in the land, Napoleon Demps. A Flint Michigan native, he grew up listening to Soul luminaries OV Wright, Willie Hutch and Sam Cooke, whose influence led Demps down a path to becoming an accomplished Soul singer himself - scoring his first hit at the age of 24 in the still thriving Southern Chitlin Circuit of the early aughts. Demps, having been a long time Daptone fan, connected with the Dap-Kings at a soundcheck at a Detroit nightclub for an impromptu rendition of “A Change is Gonna Come.” Bosco Mann was floored by his voice and swore they would meet again. Last year, with that sweet soulful voice still ringing in his ears, Mann would reconnect with Demps and bring him out to Penrose Recorders in Riverside, California to finally cut his first Daptone side. "Norma Jean" is a funky soul groover that lands somewhere between the nuanced big city sounds Chicago and Detroit were pumping out in the late '60s: think the grit of Twinight's houseband Pieces of Peace, kissed by the sophisticated Motor City production of Dave Hamilton or The Brothers of Soul and you're getting warm. Napoleon's smooth, commanding voice injects a je ne sais quoi that's wholly fresh, bypassing the affected trappings that plague many of today's singers. In short... Napoleon Demps is a Soul singer's Soul singer. Take a listen and hear for yourself!

Lucky ones by Luttrell

After a whirlwind 2019, which saw Eric Luttrell release his acclaimed debut solo album ‘Into Clouds’ on Anjunadeep, the prolific San Francisco native makes a swift return to the UK imprint with his second LP ‘Lucky Ones’. Eric will also embark on his most extensive headline tour to date, with 23 shows across North America through summer.
First breaking into electronic music as part of the OWSLA-affiliated trio The M Machine, Eric launched his solo project in 2016 with the widely supported ‘Need You’ EP, while Anjunadeep catalog favorites ‘Generate’ EP and Annie Mac’s Hottest Record In The World 'Intergalactic Plastic’ followed in quick succession. Now with his highly-praised debut album under his belt, which reached #2 on iTunes Dance Album charts in USA and Canada and #8 in the Official UK Dance Album Charts, Luttrell’s unique brand of quirky melodic house and techno has cemented his name as one of the scenes most hotly tipped talents; opening doors to working with Moby, Tycho, Jai Wolf, What So Not and Blossoms, all of whom commissioned remixes from Eric.
Whereas ‘Into Clouds’ examined the transitional periods of life, and was reflective of Eric’s mindset at the time of recording, ‘Lucky Ones’ is a celebration. Anchored in themes of gratitude, the LP is a collection of 11 meticulously crafted cuts which see him draw from a deep pool of personal influences, including the likes of The Smashing Pumpkins, Nirvana and The Prodigy, his love for San Francisco and Burning Man, time spent as a student in Berlin, climbing Mount Kilimanjaro, and even winning the US TV game show, The Price Is Right. “I am incredibly lucky to have such enthusiastic and amazing support behind this project and this album is dedicated to all of my fans and listeners. The songs on this album make you smile, make you dance and most of all, make you feel all the feels. Enjoy!”

Anatolian Sessions - Delichones EP [Art Vibes Music]

After successfully launching his imprint Harabe in late 2019, Anatolian Sessions is back on Art Vibes with a two-track EP: Delichones'.
‘Delichones' and ‘Theia', the two original tracks demonstrate the forward-thinking sound signature of the Istanbul-based producer and DJ. Contrasting with the genuine ethnic approach of his 'Keder' EP released on Art Vibes in 2017, both ‘Theia' and ‘Delichones' present dreamy atmospheres and soothing beats. While there are still hints of ethnic instruments and percussions, the focus is resolutely put onto carefully designed synthesizer sounds. This approach leads to a very cohesive and addictive EP, perfect for the upcoming summer vibes.
‘Delichones' EP is complemented with three remixes from Rauschhaus, Pandhora, and Mel7em. German musician and producer Rauschhaus makes his first appearance on Art Vibes with his remix of ‘Delichones'. His unique sound signature has made waves throughout the electronic music scene and is definitely turning Delichones into a groovy and highly energetic version.
French duo Pandhora applied their psychedelic and ethereal vision to ‘Theia'. Through the use of guitar licks and synthetic pads, they gave a whole new color to the track. Making sure to stay true to the original, they used the main theme as the basis for a complete rich re-harmonization.
‘Keder' released in 2017 has been one of the most appreciated tracks on Art Vibes. For that reason, Mel7em gave this track a fresh rework. The pianist and producer has a very distinctive way of arranging tracks and sounds which we fell in love with. Yet again, he is pushing his progressive and club-oriented vision with a banging remix.

Heart-Shaped Box (Lockdown Version) by Hannah Williams

Hannah Williams and the Affirmations are the current darlings of the worldwide Soul scene. Having been sampled by Jay Z on the Grammy-nominated song “4:44”, they were catapulted around the globe. This has lead them to work w/ Tyler The Creator, Guy Chambers and Pete Rock, to name a few. They've been personally championed by Huey Morgan and the late, great masters Sharon Jones and Charles Bradley.

HANNAH WILLIAMS & THE AFFIRMATIONS RELEASE A COVER OF NIRVANA’S “HEART-SHAPED BOX”

Bristol-based soul hurricane Hannah Williams & The Affirmations unleash a cover of Nirvana’s “Heart-shaped box” today, June 26th on all digital platforms.
Hannah and the band have been enjoying connecting with their fans and followers in a whole new way during the past few months of lockdown. Putting musical direction in the hands of their loyal following for the first time, a cover song choice was put to the vote and as a result they were set the challenge of covering a truly classic/significant track. Originally released in 1993, “Heart shaped Box” became a hugely popular and life-changing release for Nirvana as well as the many millions of fans who fell in love with it.
In this new recording, Hannah and the band put their own musical spin on this cult classic highlighting how fundamentally any great composition can translate across different genres if embraced and adapted with care. Through countless back and forths with their mixing engineer, and rapid advancements to each of their remote recording setups; the band managed to sculpt this recording, despite lockdown restrictions. The song itself shines the light once again on the state of society and its turmoils; coincidentally more relevant than ever to all of us today, making this release far more poignant than the band ever envisaged.
“This release is an ode to the world and its struggles” the band says “a nod to the past but also a move into the future, and most of all a tribute to all the amazing people who continue to not only support the band but also support all the important messaging and movements they try to encourage through their art and influence”.
Born in High Wycombe in Buckinghamshire, Williams' father was a musically gifted minister, and her mother let her join the church choir at the age of six. Hannah could read music before she could properly read words, and when she discovered soul by listening with her mum to Motown and Bill Withers, there was no turning back. Hannah Williams & The Affirmations turned heads worldwide when the hip-hop superstar Jay-Z sampled her heart-stopping vocals on “Late Nights & Heartbreak” for the title track, “4.44” on his 2017 album. With the new album “50 FOOT WOMAN”, released last October 18th on the Milan based imprint Record Kicks, Hannah and her exemplary, Bristol-based band the Affirmations have delivered a definitive career statement.
