Midnight Madness by Moderator

 

The best movies are the midnight movies, cult films played for deviant, open-minded audiences long after sundown. These films are experiences, usually in the genres of horror, hippie-delia, or total freak-show. This midnight movie vibe is sonically captured by Moderator on his latest album for Melting Records, Midnight Madness. The famed Athens-based producer has assembled 14 tracks that run the gamut, each one evoking the devilish unpredictability of cult cinema and the dopeness of a phat break.

Moderator is known for his extensive musical knowledge, with his tastes running from hip-hop to rockabilly, dub to Memphis soul, and all points in-between. On Midnight Madness, these genres intersect in dreamlike scenes from imaginary movies. There’s “Unspoken,” with its Latin-psychedelics, wah-wah guitar riffs, and rousing trumpet, resembling an alternate universe Morricone. Camp spookiness also appears on tunes like “Haunted Lover,” which combines a big breakbeat and vampy vocals for a creature showdown in black and white.

The delightfully strange rears its head on cuts like “Once Upon a Time” and “Crystal Gaze,” both summoning playful witchcraft vibes straight out of a vintage Italian Giallo film. The downtempo flavor is heavy, casting spells on the fussiest of beat-headz. Moderator also whips out some twisted tribal lounge, as “Tamboo” delivers a rhythmic procession of fashionable zombies to the darkly lit dance floor.

Just as midnight movies bring endless surprises, the tracks on Midnight Madness won’t stop revealing after multiple listens. Moderator’s intricate fusions unfold in exotic layers and there are sinister secrets to discover. These movies play on the turntable, in the nightclub, and inside your head. And you don’t have to wait for the witching hour to have a listen.

But, hey we are actually counting about 220, including our physical releases, and we are about to celebrate with our anniversary and successful compilation Freestyle 4 Funk 8 (Compiled by Timewarp).
The compilation will be divided into four different volumes tagged with the proper music style to showcase some of the best sounding tracks we have released so far.

This is the fifth remix single release from Timewarp inc’s fourth studio LP album “Theory of Revolution”. And this one is brought to you by the well known and established French freestyle duo project Prosper & Stabfinger. These guys did collaborations with names like: Ashley Slater, Georges Perin, Too Many T’s and Everyman and Awoke to name a few. Here we present you an exceptional dance-floor monster disco-funk-house remix made to rock on the dance floors, and dedicated to all those groovers that wants some hip hop spice with a soul! This remix was made under a unique re- mixing request to blend a concept of two Timewarp inc original tracks. Yuil Disco Breaks is the first one here, that is the main music theme of the remix that holds some soul and funk vocal hooks by Salomi Vasileiadou, while the second featuring song is Economic Boom. From here they just used the main hiphop vocal parts from the original performed by the The Mage. Finally we get a smashing remix that will stay in your crate for along time. An instrumental version of the remix is also included on the release. Both original songs appeared on Timewarp inc’s latest double vinyl album. The remixer kept most of the original song stems almost intact but he provides a different constant dance-floor groove with electronic baseline and synths and an additional tropical house style fat beat. This can be called a re-edit and a re-mix sitting together in a great sweet pot. An instrumental version of the remixed song is included in the release. He already opened shows for Afrika Bambaataa, Grand Master Flash, Mos Def, Ice Cube, Questlove and is known for his fiery gigs around the world. »Let The Soul Pride In« is a b-boy driven soul / psyche rock classic with heavy breaks and much energy for the dancefloor with a very DJ friendly intro and outro at 120 BPM. On the flipside we've got the Hip Hop monster »Clipse Comin' Thru« in a JBz style. It's a re-make of the Jungle Brothers »J Beez Comin' Through« blended with Clipse »When The Last Time« plus bonus beats for all the djs who love to play around. Both tracks are mixed by Nick Bike and the handwritten (as usual in this series) is by the artist

Theory of Revolution remixes by Timewarp inc

The first remix single release from Timewarp inc’s fourth studio LP album “Theory of Revolution”. This will be a remix series that will constantly continue during this year, providing one new single track remixed, bringing you something new & fresh to discover!
This first remix single is brought by Athens based producer RSN. As you can discover on this particular remix, RSN managed to bring the original song’s dub-reggae-funk style along with the Reggae-Raga & Dancehall vocals from Gobey into his music style & territory, blended with soul, trip hop, downtempo and his floating music character over the original song.
An instrumental version of the remix is included on the release.






This is the second remix single release from Timewarp inc's fourth studio LP album "Theory of Revolution", and this time it is brought to you by Athens based producer and musician Antigoni Kostala known as Beat Ride.
As you will discover on this particular remix, Beat Ride managed to take the most important elements from the original song, mostly vocals, some fundamental keys and melodica hooks, those skunky guitar reggae chords and a few riffs and solos from here and there.
While the original song is a dub- reggae-funk-tropical based song, with heavy reggae hip hop vocals from sistah Jammaroots, Beat Ride recreates, re-thinks and transforms the original concept of the song into a dreamy, cinematic downtempo blended with trip hop air and themed with a 70's vintage and organic way. An instrumental version of the remix is also included on the release, served with extra flavours and elements compared to the vocals remix.

This is the third remix single release from Timewarp inc's fourth studio LP album "Theory of Revolution", and this time it is brought to you by Greece based producer and beat- maker from Crete Island known as mCurtis.
A remix all made up under an exclusive trip hop vibe, close to the original released version that delivers and features the unique deep east based instrument Santuri.

mCurtis takes the track in another level with mpc-based fat downtempo beats, adding more space and warmth with synths and samples by blending more world style & ethnic elements on the song like live Oud played from his mate Georgios Tzioumaris, and extra percussions.
